Message from Father David

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent a special time each year when we enter into a personal time of reflection and prayer culminating in the celebration of Easter.Ashes will be blessed and given at all Masses in our Parish.

Tuesday 12th February – Ash Wednesday Vigil Mass 7.30pm at Holy Family Church, Farnham

Wednesday, 13th February – Ash Wednesday Mass 12.00pm at Holy Family Church.

Wednesday, 13th February – Ash Wednesday Mass 7.30pm at Holy Angels Church, Ash

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter at the 7.30pm Mass at Holy Angels on Ash Wednesday we shall be joining with Parishioners from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Ash Vale for part of the Mass and for a frugal Vegetarian Supper – Soup and Cheese.  We need two volunteers to liaise with the parishioners at St. Mary’s to sort out who does what.  Please see me (Father David) or Deacon John if you are able to volunteer for this ‘one off’ important ecumenical occasion.

If you are interested in finding out a little more about your faith and what the Church teaches you would probably find the small pocket book produced by the CTS very useful.  It is called ‘THE FAITH OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH’ and is a summary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  It costs £2.95 and is available on line info@cts-online.org.uk or Tel: 0207640 0042 Ref: ISBN 1-86082-100-6 (CTS website: www.cts-online.org.uk

Deadline for the weekly Newsletter

Two years ago we recognised the importance of websites from a communications aspect.  We reviewed several website Designers and the one we chose, whom we have been very happy with was Netresult.  Their Managing Director, David Millard, has been running occasional training sessions for Rita.

During the last session this past week, David recommended that in view of the amount of work in keeping two websites up to date and the greatly increased use of the websites by the public (Christmas week Ash alone had over 260 members of the Public view our Holy Angels website) we now need to allocate specific time to be spent on the two websites. It has therefore been decided by Rita that she will set aside a Friday morning each week to maintaining the two sites and keeping them up to date.  This has therefore meant that the deadline for articles for the weekly Newsletter must now be in by lunchtime on Wednesday with the Newsletter being printed now on a Thursday morning.

It is important that the Newsletter, which is appreciated and valued by so many of you is not “put at risk” by unforeseen developments in the Parish Office, which has become increasingly busy in the past year and we find ourselves sometimes without sufficient time to edit the Newsletter properly.  Thank you to all for your understanding and support for Rita and our Parish Office.

Provisional Dates for AGM’s

Holy Angels – 5th June 2013 at 7.30pm

Holy Family – 12th June, 2013 at 7.30pm

Are these dates suitable for most people?

God Bless you all    Father David.

Baptism

Why do we baptise children who cannot speak for themselves?

The birth of a child often encourages parents to look anew at the things they value in life and their relationship with God.

Loving Parents will seek to share with their child all that they have found to be of value in their own lives:  respecting others, seeking to learn about the world and developing talents.

Christian Parents will especially want their child to know that it is loved by God and that God cares for them as a loving Father as they care for their children and prepare them for adult life.

In circumstances such as these it is natural for Christian parents to wish to share their Faith and their love for God with their Child from the very earliest moment and so a child who cannot choose for itself is promised in love by the parents and Godparents the opportunity to grow in Faith and in the love of God.

Every Child as we know will choose for itself when it comes of age and that choice is expressed in a positive way in Confirmation when a young person accepts for themselves the promises that were made on their behalf at their Baptism.

A real and genuine choice is only possible if a child has been given the knowledge and experience to make a choice.  In the Baptism of an infant or small child that is the very special gift promised by the Parents and God Parents for the child entrusted to their care.

God our Heavenly Father, we ask you to bless those of us called to be Parents or Godparents.  We will be the first teachers of the child entrusted to us in the ways of the Faith and the knowledge of God’s love.  May we be the best of Parents and Godparents bearing witness to the love of God in all we do and say.

Through Christ our Lord Amen.
