Advent

Advent Study Groups:  This year the theme of the Advent Study will be mercy, in order to tie into the Year of Mercy about to start. As usual we will be running Advent study groups in both parishes.

Holy Family: These will take place on Thursday evenings at 7.30 for 8pm for those who wish to attend Mass first. Please speak to Ann Martindale who can be contacted on Martindale@ntlworld.com or 01252 681752 after 7pm.

Holy Angels: St Mary’s Room, 7.30 pm Fridays in Advent, next group Friday 11th December

Holy Year of Mercy

The Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy is to be inaugurated by Pope Francis on Tuesday 8th December on the feast of the Immaculate Conception when he opens the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Bishop Richard has issued a Pastoral Letter to be read in all parishes this weekend outlining plans for the Holy Year which begins with the opening of a Holy Door at Arundel Cathedral on Sunday 13th December with Mass at 5pm. There are three other venues for a Holy Door around the Diocese, being Christ, the Prince of Peace, Weybridge, the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead and Mayfield School. For more information on the Year of Mercy see www.dabnet.org

Holy Angels

Coffee Group: There is a regular coffee group which meets after the Wednesday morning Mass. All welcome.

Children’s liturgy :Regrettably, at Holy Angels, Children’s Liturgy takes place only on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. This is due to a decreasing team.   We currently have only two leaders. We would love to hold Children’s Liturgy EVERY Sunday, but to do so we need help.    Could you be a catechist and lead a session?    Training can be arranged. If you can help, please contact Bec Newey on 07854 231 469 or johnandbec@ntlworld.com

The Children’s Liturgy team are having a meeting during coffee after Mass on Sunday 6th December which would be an ideal opportunity to speak to the leaders and find out what’s involved.

Holy Family

60 years at Holy Family: Bishop Richard will visit Holy Family on Sunday 26 June to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the parish. On that Sunday we will reverse the normal Mass times so that the Mass at Holy Family will be at 11am to enable us to have a social event afterwards.

An Invitation

To come together with Father Robin to consider the future direction of Holy Family parish

Saturday 16th January 11.30 am Holy Family Hall

Bring and share lunch, ending with the vigil Mass of Sunday at 4pm

Christmas Services

Please think about inviting friends and family along to one of our Christmas services. For further information see www.comehomeforchristmas.co.uk

Message from Bishop Richard:

It’s always wonderful to receive an invitation from someone, especially from a person who is close to us or someone we respect and admire. The invitation is something that Jesus uses a good deal.

He says ‘Follow me’ to his first disciples; ‘Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened’ to the crowds. ‘Come and see’ to Andrew and Peter when they asked where he lived.

There will be people whom you know, Catholics who – for a whole variety of reasons – have ceased to join us in the celebration of the Eucharist and who struggle on their pilgrim journey. You are the people who are best placed to offer them an invitation to share afresh in the life of faith. Do not be afraid to offer them a gentle invitation to ‘Come and See’.

24th December 5.30pm for both parishes at Holy Family, Crib blessing and Mass – children invited to dress up. We will be having a draw as usual for whichever children would like to be Mary and Joseph and carry Jesus to the crib. The draw will take place on the 20th December and names need to be submitted by the 13th December.

Midnight Mass, 11.30pm Holy Angels, preceded by carols at 11.00pm

Christmas Day Mass at 9.15 Holy Family and 11.00am Holy Angels

St Stephen’s Day Mass (Boxing Day) at 9.30 am Holy Angels

Please let the parish office know if there are any housebound or sick parishioners who will be needing to receive communion at home for Christmas.

24 Hours for the Lord

Following the success of the event in Lent a 24 hours for the Lord will take place with adoration and confession available throughout that time. This will start at St Joan’s Farnham at midday on Friday 11th December, then at midnight will transfer to St Joseph’s Guilford where it will continue until midday on Saturday 12th. Pope Francis is convinced that a key part of our renewal as a Catholic church is greater participation in adoration and the use of the sacrament of reconciliation amongst Catholics and hopes that the Year of Mercy about to begin, will be a time for us to start this renewal.

Christmas confession times

In addition to the 24 hours for the Lord, Father Robin will be available to hear confessions during adoration on Thursday 17th December 6.15- 7.15pm, Holy Family and then Saturday 19th December from 9am to 10am at Holy Angels and from 11.30am to 12.30pm at Holy Family.

Father Robin will also be celebrating Evening Prayer publicly in the run-up to Christmas and will happily hear confessions afterwards. Details to follow.

Parish Census

We will be taking a parish census this month as one has not been done for 5 years. Some of you may know that our database needs updating as there was a major computer crash before Father Robin arrived in the parish. Taking a census is also very helpful for Father Robin as he is still getting to know people in the parish and gives you an opportunity to note if you haven’t received a visit and would like one or if you have particular skills and talents to the parish, or if you are doing jobs that he may not be fully aware of.

Please fill in one of the forms available at the back of church by the end of the year.
