Holy Angels

Prayer Group: please help increase our numbers in our prayer group. For parish, personal and wider needs. Once a month at Holy Angels Church. All welcome. Next dates, 3rd November, 1st December.

Coffee Group: There is a regular coffee group which meets after Mass on a Wednesday morning. All are welcome.

Children’s liturgy :Regrettably, at Holy Angels, Children’s Liturgy takes place only on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. This is due to a decreasing

team.   We currently have only two leaders. We would love to hold Children’s Liturgy EVERY Sunday, but to do

so we need help.    Could you be a catechist and lead a session?    Training can be arranged. If you can help, please contact Bec Newey on 07854 231 469 or johnandbec@ntlworld.com

Bidding prayers: We are experimenting with an opportunity to add prayers for the sick, recently departed and anniversaries by use of a weekly intercessions book, which is at the back of church. Please add any intentions to be remembered before Mass begins.

Holy Family

Shoebox appeal: Today we will be giving out leaflets for the Christmas Samaritan’s Purse shoe box Appeal.  Unfortunately (or fortunately!) we only have 35 shoe boxes left so please only take one if you are able to fill it and return by the end of October.  However, if you are happy to find and cover your own shoe box that would be very much appreciated!  As mentioned earlier, this year’s shoe boxes will be given out to those homeless children from Syria who are seeking refuge from the present bombing in their war-torn country.

Advent Lunch: This year’s Advent Lunch will take place on Friday 30 October at 12.30pm.  I know there is a delicious Leek & Potato soup and there will be more home-made soups, plus rolls and cheese and coffee – so do please make a special effort to come along as all monies raised will be sent to help those families in Nepal still struggling to rebuild their lives after the devastating earthquake earlier in the year.

Former HF parishioner, Joseph ‘BRIAN’ Edwards died on Sunday 27th September. He passed away peacefully to join his late wife, Margaret. His funeral will take place at St. Joan of Arc Church, Tilford Road, Farnham, 11am 22nd October. All are welcome.

Lucy Rahelu had 7 inches of hair hair cut off on Saturday (10 Oct) .  She is donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust who provide real hair wigs to boys and girls who have lost their hair through cancer treatment. She will be sporting her new hairstyle today. If people would like to sponsor her and donate to the trust they can do it online at https://mydonate.bt.con/fundraisers/lucygrace or give donations to Geraldine or Lucy to send to the charity.

Wenceslas Encore!

For the fourth year Farnham Lions are inviting better-off senior-citizens to forgo some or all of their Winter Fuel Payments in favour of local people who are in serious Fuel Debt or chronic Fuel Poverty. Last winter, thanks to the warm-heartedness of some 220 donors, we distributed £20,000 in Farnham and Haslemere. This sum enabled us to clear all the Fuel debt cases on the books of both Farnham and Haslemere Citizens Advice Bureaux and also to make a large number of discretionary grants of £100 to needy families who were identified to us by Sure Start and School/Home Link social workers. Every payment was made direct to a fuel utility company on behalf of our clients thus ensuring that ALL the money was spent on fuel. Donations for 2015/16 are invited to www.justgiving.com/lions-wenceslas ; or cheques may be sent to “Lions Club of Farnham” (and endorsed “WFP” on the back) to “Lion Treasurer, 2 Birdhaven, Sandrock Hill Road, Farnham, GU10 4PB”
Tanzania Presentation

The Youth Group will be putting on another presentation regarding their time in Tanzania, following the 11am Mass at Holy Angels on Sunday 11th October, for those parishioners who have not yet had an opportunity to see it.

The next ENCOUNTER evening for 15-35s will be at St. Wilfrid’s School, Crawley (RH118PG) 7-9pm on Friday 23rd. Our guest speaker this month will be Fr. Simon Dray, one of the Diocese’s newest priests. As usual, there will also be live music, food, and a time of adoration. It’s a great way to learn more about your faith in a friendly, relaxed environment, and a great way to make some new friends. Those who are over 18 are welcome to join us at the pub afterwards. The event is free, and there’s no need to book. New people are always particularly welcome.

Pontifical Mass of St Philip Howard, Sunday 18th October 2015, 3pm Arundel Cathedral

Synod on the Family

The Church’s Synod on the Family commenced last weekend on Sunday 4th October. The Synod is meeting to consider the various pastoral challenges which are facing Catholic families today.

If you would like a specific synod father to pray for, the website adoptasynodfather.com will send you the name of a specific synod father, randomly selected to keep in your prayers, over the duration of the Synod.

Every parish priest in England was recently sent a copy of a new DVD: Marriage God’s Design for Life and Love, which both Deacon John and myself have found useful in marriage preparation. We will be showing it in St Mary’s Meeting Room at Holy Angels, on Wednesday 14th October at 7.30 pm and it’s a good opportunity during this period of reflection to renew our understanding of the Church’s teaching and reflect on it together.

Please feel free to invite anyone who might be interested in learning about what the Catholic church teaches on marriage to come.

School Forms

If you are seeking to have a school form signed please see Father Robin after masses, to make an appointment to do so.

Parish statistics

October is when the annual attendance statistics are collected by the diocese. These figures form an important part of the diocese’s reflection on the viability of parishes. As Catholics we are of course required to attend Mass every Sunday (barring serious reasons.) Perhaps we should take this as an extra spur this month.
