Halloween

Some parents who are concerned about the safety of children wanting to be out on the streets at night and some who are concerned about some of the negative aspects of marketing for Halloween, have asked if it would be possible to have a Halloween party in the Parish.

The tradition of celebrating on the night before all Saints (Halloween) started as a good and honourable tradition in Eastern Europe. Immigrants took the tradition to America where it was marketed as a commercial opportunity.

The basic idea behind Halloween originally was the journey through the challenges of life (greed and temptation, violence) and all that can be a bad influence in life to the Light of the Saints in Heaven. The traditional message of Good triumphing over evil.

We are planning a celebration for children of junior school age which will involve a journey with night lights through the “Haunted Garden” with tasks to complete along the way. Hopefully some of the older youth will represent the ghosts of Scrooge from Dickens, A War Soldier and other challenges in life that have not been good for people.

The journey through the Haunted Garden will end in the Hall at Holy Angels which will have a tree with Christmas lights on to represent the Saints in Heaven and there will be sweets and treats. There will also be a short children’s disco and each child will be given a bag of sweets for their journey home.

We plan to charge £3 per child to ask parents to contribute whatever they wish to help fund an orphanage in Tanzania.

The earliest we may be able to start would be 6.30pm (which hopefully should not be a problem as it is half term). We plan to end no later than 8.30pm.

If you are interested, please get a booking form this Sunday and return it next week so we know if there is sufficient support to run this event. Thank you.

PLEASE NOTE: The Parish Offfice will be closed from Friday, 3rd October until Thursday, 9th October inclusive. Please ring the office telephone number during normal office hours with any enquiries unless urgent. [Emails will not be dealt with during this time]
