Countdown to Christmas – Week One

The first week of Advent introduces our “Count Down” to Christmas.  On the first Sunday of Advent we light the First Candle on the Advent Wreath which reminds us of the Angel Gabriel telling Mary that God had chosen her to be the Mother of his Son, Jesus and the beginning of a whole new relationship with us.  The round wreath of green represents the world into which that message came.
The four weeks of Advent are a time when we prepare ourselves spiritually and mentally to celebrate on Christmas night and Christmas Day the new relationship God has with us which he set in place through the birth on earth of his Son, Jesus.  If we do not prepare both spiritually and in our hearts and minds for Christmas, we cannot expect to have a real Christmas.  We may have the giving and receiving of gifts, the extra special food, but without an understanding of the huge significance of how the birth of Jesus changed our lives, we throw away the true value of Christmas and miss the jewel which we discard with the wrapping.  The real Gift of Christmas is not just for Christmas but for every day of our lives.
Confession is the act of being Reconciled and at Peace with God.  Christmas Confessions will be available at Holy Angels on Saturday, 14th December and 21st December from 4.20pm to 5.20pm (Evening Mass at 5.30pm) and at Holy Family on Friday, 20th December at 6.15pm to 7.15pm. followed by Mass at 7.30pm.

God Bless you all            Father David
