Second Collection

CAFOD LENT FAMILY FAST COLLECTION takes place TODAY after Mass.  As in previous years if you prefer to keep your Family Fast Envelope and use it for a Lenten Alms please do so and place it in the Offertory Basket on Good Friday – Proving it is in an envelope it will be separated from the Collection and sent to CAFOD

Information. 

Prayer Group for Holy Angels and Holy Family Churches takes place once a month on a Tuesday.  The next date is Tuesday, 8^th April and 6^th May.  Coffee at 7.30pm for 7.45pm start. To be held in the Parish Office

Adult Confirmation sessions:  Sufficient interest has been shown. This will now definitely take place between Easter and Pentecost. On Wednesday’s 7th & 21st May & 4th June starting at 7:30 pm at Holy Angels Ash. All are welcome to come, even just to refresh your faith. More information from Deacon John.

 

Knights of St Columba Lent Day of Reflection – Saturday 29^th March – ALL ARE WELCOME

KSC Council 185 (Farnborough) lent day of reflection led by their Chaplain, Deacon John Edwards. This will take place at Holy Angels Church, Ash. On Saturday 29^th March, registration at 10:15. Mass at midday and an opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. Finish: around 3:00 pm. Please bring packed lunch, hot drinks will be available. This day will count as our Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion refreshment day.

Coffee and Tea after 11am Mass this Sunday – Please feel free to use the tables and chairs in the Priest’s garden if you wish.  A ball and badmington rackets are also available.

 

Holy Family

Mother and Toddler Group – Our Mother and Toddler Group meet every Thursday morning from 9.30am until 11.30am in the Church Hall.  Why not join us and have a chat over a cup of coffee whilst your children enjoy some playtime with other young children.

 

Father David’s Message

The Way of the Cross through the eyes of Mary the Mother of Jesus: Last Sunday (1^st Sunday of Lent) at Holy Angels we used three of the Station “Through the eyes of Mary” at the beginning of Mass.  Several people commented on how moving they were and asked where they could get hold of a copy.  It now seems to be out of print but we have managed to get hold of ten copies which are available from the Gift Shop at 40p each.

I would like to thank the kind person who donated an icon of St. Patrick for both Churches for the Feast of St. Patrick this year – which is on Monday.  There will be a Mass on Monday Evening at 7.30pm at Holy Angels, Ash for the special intention of our parishioners who have an Irish heritage.  Coffee and Tea will be available after Mass.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish all those whose homeland is Ireland A Happy Feast Day on Monday.

St. Patrick: Although there is quite a lot of documentary evidence about the life of St. Patrick, little is know about his mother or her nationality. St. Patrick’s Father (Calpurnus) was a collector of taxes for the Roman Empire in Great Britain.  This implies that he must have had Roman Citizenship either by birth or by adoption.  St. Patrick’s family lived in South Wales near the river Severn.  This area was constantly raided by pirates looking for slaves for herding and shepherding farm animals in Ireland, especially in the County of Antrim.  Patrick is estimated to have spent six years in Ireland before escaping.  When he returned to Britain he had a dream where he heard “Irish voices begging him to come back to Ireland”.  Patrick went to France to study for the priesthood and returned to Ireland about 461.  He was not the first priest to go to Ireland but he was the first to unite all the clans of Ireland as Christians belonging to one church which was his greatest achievement.  Tradition tells how Patrick because he found theology so difficult would strive to find the simplest way to teach the faith – hence the Tradition of the shamrock which has become his personal symbol.  St. Patrick’s death is recorded as being in 492 AD (from a book of Saints by John Coulson – published by Canton Press of London)

Many thanks to those who helped organise the Women’s World Day of Prayer at Holy Family which also went very well and also those who represented Holy Angels at Tongham.

Congratulations to our Youth Music Group.  I hear that their song at The Women’s World Day of Prayer at Tongham was a great success.

Ecumenical Lenten Activity: with St. Mary’s Ash Vale and other Churches on Friday 4^th April at 7.30pm in the form of a mimed Passion Play with commentary and Music.  Weather permitting in the Priest’s Garden at Holy Angels by members of the Youth Group and local Churches.  Volunteers are needed to help – please contact Fr. David, Rev. Neil Lambert or Gloria Benson. (Refreshments  will be available after the event. Please put this date in your diary.)

St. Joseph – This Wednesday we remember Joseph, a carpenter and the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We remember how Joseph who was betrothed to Mary stood by her when she was visited by an Angel who told her that through the power of the Holy Spirit she would bear a son who would be the Saviour of the World and who they would name,  Jesus.

We remember all Fathers at this time and give thanks to God for them.
