Please do take the time to look at the booklet the diocese has given to each family (copies are still available if you were not here last week), Please sign the form as early as possible as we need to book the coaches well in advance of this event. We are almost at the point now that we need to confirm coaches so please don’t delay in signing up. With thanks

General Election Letter

With the General Election taking place this week, please do not forget to read a copy of the guidance letter for Catholic voters issued by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, Copies are still available in the narthex. One of the things that Catholics are urged to consider when casting their vote, is what priority each candidate places upon marriage and family life, along with life issues. Although it sadly looks as though the issue of abortion will not be up for negotiation within the next Parliament, it seems certain that another attempt is going to be made to change the law to allow euthanasia, or assisted dying. The right to life is the most fundamental human right of all; therefore it is important to find out how the local candidates would vote on this, which will be a matter of personal conscience and not party policy.

The Universe Catholic Newspaper

In an increasingly secularised world, it is often very difficult for Catholics to keep abreast of news and current affairs and yet the mainstream media are not always very good at reporting events from a Catholic or Christian perspective, let alone reporting events which keep us in touch with matters affecting the wider UK and global Catholic world. Last year’s Synod on the Family was misrepresented by the wider media and worrying concerns such as the introduction of 3-parent embryos were reported on uncritically. Equally the massacre and persecution of Christian communities in the Middle East has been largely ignored, as has Pope Francis’ several homilies, demanding urgent action.

It is always a good idea for Catholics to glean their information from a reputable and trusted Catholic source, which will offer a faith-based perspective and insight into what we might see on the news or read about online or in our daily newspapers, as well as keeping us abreast of various Catholic headlines throughout the globe. For this reason we will be trialling selling copies of the Catholic Universe available for purchase at the back of the Church. The Universe is the largest selling Catholic newspaper for Great Britain and Ireland, and has been since 1860. It works closely with all agencies of the Catholic Church to produce a newspaper whose news coverage is second to none; and it enjoys a considerable reputation for campaigning on a wide range of Catholic concerns. Fr Robin’s wife Caroline is also one of their regular columnists!

If you would prefer a different weekly publication, please speak to Fr Robin as there needs to be enough regular readers in order to make subscription worthwhile.

MAY is of course traditionally a month in which we are asked to be particularly devoted to Mary. If you don’t already pray the Rosary on a regular basis this is good opportunity to make use of that devotion. Please speak to Fr Robin if you would like to find out more about this beautiful way of meditating with Our Lady on the mysteries of our Lord’s life.

“When the Blessed Virgin said yes, freely, to the plans revealed to her by the Creator, the divine Word assumed a human nature – a rational soul and a body – which was formed in the most pure womb of Mary. The divine nature and the human nature were united in a single Person: Jesus Christ, true God and, thenceforth, true man; the only-begotten and eternal Son of the Father and from that moment on, as man, the true Son of Mary. This is why our Lady is the mother of the Incarnate Word, of the second Person of the Blessed Trinity, who has united our human nature to himself for ever, without any confusion of the two natures. The greatest praise we can give to the Blessed Virgin is to address her loudly and clearly by the name that expresses her very highest dignity: ‘Mother of God.’”

Christ is Passing By St . Josemaria Escriva

Keep an eye of the Saturday morning diary as well. This Saturday there will be a Votive Mass of Our Lady at Holy Angels, Ash at 9.30am.

Please in particular can you ask Our Lady to pray for our Bishop designate during this month. Offer up a Rosary or even a simple Hail Mary for him every day if you can.

You can also say this prayer for him.

O God, eternal shepherd of the faithful, who tend your Church in countless ways and rule over her in love, grant, we pray, that Richard your servant whom you have called to be set over your people may preside in the place of Christ over us, the flock whose shepherd he will be, and be faithful as a teacher of doctrine, a Priest of sacred worship and as one who serves us by governing, Through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Baptisms

Baptism forms are available at the back of both Churches. Parents will need to attend an evening Baptism course. Please return your completed Baptism Form to Deacon John Edwards so that you can be included in the next Course.
