Baptisms

If you wish to have your child baptised you need to see the Priest or Deacon after Mass and make an appointment to discuss what you need to do to prepare for your child’s Baptism and when the next Baptism Course will be and he will book a place on the course for you.

Father David’s News

Next Sunday, 25^th November is the anniversary of the death of Father Stan Burt so please remember him in your prayers.

Father Stan was Parish Priest here at Holy Angels from 1993 until 2001 and thanks to his very kind and generous legacy this made possible the shrine toSt. Josephand created a new entrance to the Church which has proved to be well used and has helped to open up the Church into St. Mary’s room.

Is there something missing from your life?

Going to Mass regularly

There is an old saying that ‘we only realise how important something is to us when we need it and can’t find it.’ This can be true of our keys, our phone, our wallet or purse and lots of things but it applies especially to our Faith and our belief in the presence of Jesus in Holy Communion.  If we miss receiving Holy Communion regularly our awareness of the presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament can slowly slip away.  If we have children it can so easily through neglect pass out of their consciousness as well; something that was once so very important to us and our parents becomes a distant memory which some remember they once had but now find it so difficult to rediscover.

If a Father or Mother is constantly absent from their family we are not surprised if the family find it difficult to survive or to have a bond with each other; if we no longer receive Holy Communion regularly perhaps we should not be surprised if we find that the presence of Christ in Holy Communion is not as important to us as it once was.  Often the most vulnerable people at risk of losing their appreciation of the Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament are usually those who have had good homes and families where the Faith has always been loved and appreciated.  Perhaps this may be because we can so easily take for granted the values that have been given to us as children and presume that they will always be there for us when we need them without any effort on our part.

Jesus only asks us to do one thing for him personally:  ‘This is my body – do this in remembrance of me’.  Jesus knew better than anyone that relationships only survive with regular contact.  Jesus longs to have this personal regular contact with each and every one of us.  How many people have you met in your life that you still keep contact with or even remember?  Perhaps there are some good friends that you have lost through lack of contact and who could have been a great support and friend to you or you to them!  Deep down we all know that love and friendship cannot survive without a personal effort and regular contact.  If we live to be 80 years old we will probably have spent at least 7 years eating, 11 years watching TV, 27 years sleeping and for some even longer at the Computer.  If we live to be 80 and spend an hour at Mass on a Saturday evening or Sunday preparing to receive Jesus in Holy Communion once a week it adds up to significantly less than 5 months of our entire life.

You may hear some say ‘I can pray at home and I don’t need to go to church for Mass’.  Yes, it is important to pray at home but it is not a substitute for the presence of Jesus in Holy Communion.  Our presence at Mass not only brings us closer to the presence of Christ, whom we can share our joys and our worries with, but it also helps keep the local Catholic Community alive.  If everyone gave up going to Mass regularly there would eventually be no church here, no Catholic Schools, no Christenings, no First Communions, no weddings or any of the pastoral care we have come to value.  Just as we need the presence of Christ in Holy Communion, so Christ needs your presence at Mass for the local church to live and grow.  You may be the special person who in true friendship and Christian love may be able to help and encourage someone who has lost or is losing their understanding of the importance of receiving Christ regularly in Holy Communion.  Jesus tells us in the Gospels referring to Holy Communion that ‘unless we take his Body we cannot have (his) life with us’

Please pray for vocations to the Priesthood for our local churches.  May the love of Christ in Holy Communion sustain us all in the challenges of life today and may we joyfully celebrate the presence of Christ in Holy Communion in our local community in our time and for generations yet to come.
