Adult Confirmation

If you are over 16 and have missed out on Confirmation for any reason and would like to receive the Sacrament we are proposing to run a short course of 6 modules over 3 meetings which would lead to Confirmation. The sacrament of Confirmation completes the initiation of Catholics and unwraps the power of the Holy Spirit. We would encourage any of you who have missed out to think about it. Especially if you are thinking about getting married, the Church prefers you to be Confirmed, or have children about to be Baptised or make their first communion. If you are interest please speak to Father David or Deacon John.

Our Youth Group

Our very brave youth group sang for Churches Together in Farnham at a Songs on Praise event  on Sunday 26th January 2014.  Brave because they had only learnt ‘Sing A Simple Song Unto the Lord’ two weeks previously and sang unaccompanied.  Well done our youth group our parishes should be proud of you all.   Gloria Benson

All bookings for the Church Hall (Parish or private) at Holy Family & Holy Angels must be made through the Parish Office. Thank you.

Baptisms

To help parents prepare for the Baptism of their children we run an information evening for parents.  Please see Father David or Deacon John for details of the next course.  If you child is more than 2 years old the information evening will be a one to one with the parents and the child and the Priest needs to see that the child is happy to be baptised.

Prayer Requests

For the sick:  Deacon David Morgan, Newton Abrew, and Paul Gibson’s Mother, Judy.

Jo Moore has asked if prayers could be offered for her husband’s grandmother, Joan Moore, who sadly passed away this week after a short illness.

Father David’s Message

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARENTS WITH CHILDREN AT ST. POLYCARPS SCHOOL

This Sunday is the third in a month of census to identify children who still live in Holy Family and Holy Angels Parish and attend Mass at Heath End or Ash at least once a month.  The purpose of the Census which will be handed to the school with Parish Financial Sponsorship towards the maintenance of the School for each child’s name.  Please only sign for your own child or children – signing for others may invalidate both your entry and theirs.  Thank you for your co-operation which will help the school significantly.  If you have moved into the parish within the last twelve months and have a child at St. Polycarp’s please complete a Registration Form and apply for the Parish levy for your child.

Please remember in your prayers Michael Ward and Dan Connors who are seriously ill.

I also would like to thank our young people who sang so well at the Songs of Praise event. Many people have also commented to me on how much they enjoyed hearing them sing.

I would also like to thank our Deacon John for co-ordinating the Songs of Praise and his wife Ann for playing the organ and also the team who organised the refreshments afterwards.  There was a very good attendance and visitors from other Churches remarked on how welcome they felt and how much they had enjoyed the event.

God Bless you all               Father David

Chinese New Year – 31st January, 2014

A few thoughts from Sister Marguerite
As we usher in the Year of the Horse….

May we walk gently and confidently into
a brand new, unknown year,
as we embrace with faith and trust
that whatever unfolds day by day,
our loving God is walking with us
as we pray for the blessing of
companions on the journey.

May we be grateful and enjoy
life’s happy moments,
may we ride the clouds of adversity
when they come with courage and trust.

May we not gallop in haste
missing out on nature’s beauty,
or seeing God in all people and situations.

Does it matter whether we are
thoroughbred race horses,
Olympic dressage winners,
ordinary farm horses,
Shetland ponies or New Forest wild ones,
trained for Riding for the Disabled,
or just giving simple joy to people?

Each and all are together
in this race of life,
I am who I am called to be.

We wish any Parishioners with Chinese heritage A Very Happy Chinese New Year.

 A Reflection

Take time to be friendly
it is the road to happiness.
Take time to laugh
it is the music of the soul
Take time to give
it is too short a day to be selfish.
Take time to work
it is the price of success.
Take time to do charity
it is the key to heaven.
