Message from Father David

First Holy Communions at Holy Family Church, Farnham

We offer our congratulations to the children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion this Saturdy and we extend a very special welcome to their relatives and friends who have come to be with them and pray for them.  At the end of the Mass the First Holy Communion Children will form a gurad of honour for the Blessed Sacrament as it is taken out of the Church in Procession reminding usthat after we have received Jesus in Holy Communion we take him in our hearts out into the world in which we live.  15% of the collection at the First Holy Communion Mass, besides covering expenses for the First Holy Communions, will go to help the Refugee Children in Syria so today’s special occasion will bring happiness not only to our own children here but also to Children in need in war torn Syria.

First Holy Communion Photos.

If you are a visitor and would like to se the photos or just keep in touch with us the photos will be available on our web sites www.holyfamilyfarnham.org or www.holyangelsash.org after Friday, 28th June.

Carol Service in Aid of the Syrian Refugee children

On Thursday, 19th December at 7.30pm at Holy Angels Church, Ash presented by the Choir of Yateley Manor Preparatory School. Please make a note of this date.

This weekend in England we celebrate Fathers’ Day

Although it is not specifically a religious celebration we should not miss an opportunity to offer prayer and encouragement to those whoshare in the vocation of being a Christian Parent.  St. Joseph, as the foster father of Jesus, was the first Christian Father and so we think of him as we ask his foster son, Jesus, to give a special blessing to all Fathers on this day.

Holy Family AGM

Some 20 people, with several apologies received, attended. The statistics for the year were not exceptional with only a few weddings and funerals.  Fr. David advised us that we are seeing a rise in the number of weddings booked for next year from ouotside the Parish.  We will begin charging for the use of the Church by those couples who have no connection with the Parish as of next year.

The Building Project was reviewed.  Completion is in sight with the carpet being laid next week.

Finances were also quickly reviewed showing a projected £35k in resereves at the end of the year.  There was some concern expressed that the offertory income was falling by about 8% er annum whilst running costs rose.

Sue Burton gave a report on the Justice and Peace activities highlighting the Advent and Lenten lunches, the Lenten Lunch was far less successful than that of Advent, monies being donated to Mary’s Meals.  She thanked the Parish which, in conjunction with Holy angels, had produced 40+ back packs made for Mary’s Meals at Christmas.  It was suggested that people could be encouraged to purchase goods now for this coming year, as summer clothing etc. is easily available, at present.  Many other activities were also mentioned (Fairtrade, CAFOD etc.)

Hilary Gray gave a brief report on the Confirmation and youth groups. Along with Gloria Benson, Lorraine Brown and Deacon John Edwards 12 candidates had been prepared, 3 from Holy Family.  The Youth Group continues to meet on a monthly basis with 10 – 20 attending.  Some of the older youth now meet occasionally on a Saturday evening.

Deacon John read a report from Amanda Watson, Teresa Woods and Lynn Strathdee.  8 children from each Parish will receive their First Holy Communon next week and the week after.  Fr. David thanked both sets of catechists for their work.

Children’s Liturgy continues to function well, with a need for some new very large folders.  There is still some concern over the number of parents who feel it necessary to stay with their children.

Gift Aid brought a return to finances, in that with falling income the tax rebate also falls.  We are now down to 87% gift aided.  There is still quite a large amount of loose change which does not help.  Planned giving could also help the Parish in financial planning.  Red Mission Boxes were also discussed especially those that have ‘gone missing’.  All are asked to be prompt in the twice yearly emptying.

Ecumenically our action is where much of the activity goes on with support for Foodbank and Assist lunches and other things involving several members.  It was noted that the Hale lunch needs a cook.  Deacon John noted a good attendance at the Farnham Walk of Witness.  Fr. David and Deacon John keep contact with the local clergy.

Fr. David mentioned schools, in particular St. Polycarp’s, and the shortage of places.  He thanked Sue Haworth-Edwards for her service as a Governor.

Brendan asked for a volunteer/s to ake over car park clearing.  Richard Taylor put his hand up but others would also be welcome.  The hall kitchen also needs some TLC.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Parish Office will be closed for the summer break from Monday, 10th June until 24th June.  Father David or Deacon John Edwards can be contacted as usual if an mergency.
