Father David’s Message

St. Patrick’s Day Mass and gathering:  Many thanks to the volunteers who organised the gathering after the St. Patrick’s Day Mass.  The Hall was beautifully decorated and the simple snacks that had been suggested turned out to be a great assortment of Irish Cheeses, soda bread, smoked salmon, relishes, Irish biscuits, apple pie and wine to wash it down.  Far more than I had anticipated or expected but it was a very enjoyable evening.

CABRINI – Children’s Society (CCS)  has written to all parishes indicating that funds should not be raised in parishes for CCS.  In view of this, parishes should NOT take up the above collection published in the Diocesan Directory 2014.  Similarly, the Crib collection in December and any other fundraising for CCS should now cease.

MOTHERING SUNDAY – Next Sunday, 30th March
Mothering Sunday is celebrated in the UK in the fourth Sunday of Lent in honour of Mary. In pre-reformation times it was called “Lady Day” (for our Lady) and was the nearest Sunday to the Feast of the Annunciation when Mary heard the news that she would be the Mother of Jesus who would be the Saviour of the World and now we celebrate this day for all Mothers.

Mothering Sunday is a time to show our love and appreciation for our Mothers by giving them gifts of flowers, chocolates or other small gifts in gratitude for the love and support they have shown to us, their children.

EASTER SERVICES

The Maundy Thursday Mass, Good Friday Passion and Easter Vigil alternates each year between Holy Angels and Holy Family.  For these three very special services neither of the Churches takes precedence and the singers for the Choir, Readers, Ministers of the Eucharist and Candidates for the Mandatum (foot washing ceremony) ideally come equally from both churches.  The principle services for these three days this year will be at Holy Family.

Maundy Thursday – 17th April 2014

Holy Angels: 9.30am –  Morning Prayer & Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
Holy Family: 7.30pm – Mass of the Last Supper

Good Friday – 18th April 2014

Holy Angels: 9.30am – Children’s Good Friday Service
Holy Family: 3pm – Liturgy of the Passion
Holy Angels: 7.30pm – Stations of the Cross

Easter Vigil (Saturday 19th April 2014)

Holy Family:  8pm – Vigil and Mass of Easter
Holy Family: 9.15am – Mass of Easter children’s Mass
Holy Angels: 11am – Sunday Mass of Easter
Holy Angels: 5.30pm – Easter Sunday Evening Mass

Liturgy Meeting for singers from both churches (to choose the settings of the Mass for Maundy Thursday and the Easter Vigil) and a quick run through some of the music on Wednesday, 9th April at 7.30pm at Holy Family. Don’t worry if you need to be late, the important thing is that you come and we have your input.  Coffee and tea will be available.

Posters with the times of the Easter Services are available at the back of Church.  If you can display one or know of somewhere to display a poster, please take one.

The mime of the Passion planned for Friday, 4th April has now been postponed.  Some of the organisers felt that it would not be possible to get it to a good enough standard in the time available.  A number of the churches are still very keen to present a Passion and feel that next year they would like to start preparations much earlier.

There will, therefore, be Stations of the Cross as usual on Friday, 4th April at 7.30pm.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Parish Office will be closed from Friday, 28th March and will re-open on Friday, 4th April.  If you have anything urgent please kindly contact Deacon John Edwards or Father David Buckley. Thank you.
