CAFOD Second Collection

Next Sunday 4th October a second collection will be taken for the CAFOD Harvest Fast Day taking place on Friday 2nd October. Collection envelopes will be available at the back of church.

We are also supporting our local Farnham foodbank Harvest Festival appeal. Posters are at the back of church detailing the goods that you can bring along to church next Sunday.

Confirmation Programme 2015/16

We will make a decision as to whether or not to run a confirmation programme at the end of the month. At the moment we do not have enough candidates to form an ideal-sized group. There are still forms at the back of church for anyone else wishing to express an interest.

RCIA and adult confirmation

If there are any adults (from older teenagers to nonagenarians!), who are either not baptised, or Christians from other churches who wish to become Catholic, or who are baptised Catholics yet to be confirmed please speak to Father Robin or Deacon John.

Holy Angels

Prayer Group: takes place once a month on a Tuesday in St. Mary’s Room at Holy Angels Church at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. Next Prayer Group Dates: 6th October, 3rd November and 1st December.

Coffee Group: There is a regular coffee group which meets after Mass on a Wednesday morning. All are welcome.

AGM Sunday 27th September 3.00pm

This is our annual opportunity to take the temperature, so to speak, of the parish. To look at our accounts, get feedback about parish groups, and to make suggestions. It will be the first parish meeting since Fr Robin’s appointment so it is also a good opportunity to come and chat to him if you haven’t yet.

Children’s liturgy :Regrettably, at Holy Angels, Children’s Liturgy takes place only on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. This is due to a decreasing team.   We currently have only two leaders.    We would love to hold Children’s Liturgy EVERY Sunday, but to do so we need help.    Could you be a catechist and lead a session?    Training can be arranged. If you can help, please contact Bec Newey on 07854 231 469 or johnandbec@ntlworld.com

CAFOD representative: Since Mike Slater’s departure from the parish, the post of CAFOD rep has been vacant.   If you feel that you could be a point of contact, please email Martin Brown mbrown@cafod.org.uk who would be happy to have someone to be the recipient of the monthly bulletins which keep the parish informed about CAFOD’s work.

Bidding prayers: We are experimenting with an opportunity to add prayers for the sick, recently departed and anniversaries by use of a weekly intercessions book, which is at the back of church. Please add any intentions to be remembered before Mass begins.

Requiem Mass: Len Lavelle The requiem Mass for Len Lavelle (Sally Brennan’s father) will take place at Holy Angels at 9.15 am on Friday 9th October. All are welcome.

Holy Family

Advent Lunch and Shoebox appeal: We are hoping to have an Advent Lunch, in aid of the Nepal earthquake, and a Christmas collection for the Samaritan’s Shoe Box Appeal on behalf of the Syrian refugee Crisis.

The Advent Lunch will be held on a Friday lunchtime, probably mid/end October – date to be finalised later.

Christmas Shoe Box Appeal (as in previous years, but this time for children caught up in the present refugee crisis) with boxes being given out shortly.

We are confident that parishioners will be as generous as usual and support both worthwhile causes. Further details will be published in next week’s Newsletter.

Repository: Judy D’Sa will be at the back of the church following the Mass on Sunday 4th October with various items for sale. Please contact her should you require anything specific.

Safeguarding

A new diocesan safeguarding training programme has been developed by the diocese. The training is primarily aimed at those who volunteer with vulnerable groups but it is open to, and suitable for, any parishioner whether they volunteer with vulnerable groups or not.

A list of training sessions is available at the back of Church, together with a sign-up sheet if you are interested, or require training.

On Saturday 3rd October a safeguarding update and Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Bishop Richard will take place at the Friary in Crawley. Please email safeguarding@dabnet.org or speak to the parish office if you would like further details or to attend.

Entrance Hymn (HA feast day)

Stars of the morning, so gloriously bright,

Filled with celestial resplendence and light,

These that, where night ever followeth day,

Raise the Trisagion ever and ay:

These are they counsellors, these dost thou own,

Lord God of Sabaoth, nearest thy throne;

These are they ministers, these dost thou send,

Help of the helpless ones, man to defend.

These keep the guard amid Salem’s dear bowers;

Thrones, Principalities, Virtues, and Powers;

Where, with the Living Ones, mystical Four,

Cherubim, Seraphim bow and adore.

‘Who like the Lord?’ thunders Michael the Chief;

Raphael, ‘the Cure of God,’ comforteth grief;

And, as at Nazareth, prophet of peace,

Gabriel, ‘the Light of God,’ bringeth release.

Then, when the earth was first poised in mid space,

Then, when the planets first sped on their race,

Then, when were ended the six days’ employ,

Then all the Sons of god shouted for joy.

Still let them succour us; still let them fight,

Lord of angelic hosts, battling for right;

Till, where their anthems they ceaseslessly pour,

We with the angels may bow and adore.
