Day for Life

Sunday, 26th July, is the Day for Life, the day dedicated by the Bishops Conference in England and Wales for celebrating and upholding the dignity of human life. This year’s theme is on cherishing and life and accepting death, which is extremely appropriate in the light of the forthcoming Assisted Suicide Bill

A second collection will be taken to support the crucial work of Day for Life, which enables the Church to fund the Anscombe Bioethics Centre as well as projects which work to protect life at every stage and every condition. Please consider giving generously. If you are a member of the Gift Aid Scheme please use one of the special second collection envelopes. More information can be found at www.dayforlife.org

Pope Francis has imparted an Apostolic Blessing upon all those who participate in any way.

Urgent Action – Assisted Suicide

On Friday 11th September the House of Commons will debate and vote on a Bill to legalise assisted suicide. This will put the most vulnerable people in our society at risk. Please contact your MP, urging them to attend the debate and vote against the Bill. You can send an e-mail to your MP via the Catholic Bishops’ Conference website (www.catholicnews.org.uk/assisted-suicide) or send a letter by post, a draft of which can be found at the back of the Church.

If you have personal experiences to share with them please do. MPs listen to their own constituents and will want to hear about your concerns.

Every person’s life is equally worthy of respect and protection. Even if someone loses sight of the dignity and value of their life (whether through pain, suffering or loneliness) they remain valuable in themselves and a member of the human family. They deserve care, support and sometimes medical treatment for depression, not assistance with suicide.

Information

Youth: Trip to Tanzania

We have received reports and photos from the group and all is going well. Please continue to keep them and all at the Karibu Nyumbani orphanage in your prayers. If you would like to be kept up to date on any specific prayer requests email Sally: ra.brennan@btinternet.com

The following update is of particular interest.

Tomorrow we leave here at 5:30 to take the children to the beach. This is to miss the traffic, and get the best of the sun before it gets too hot. The kids will be very excited. Keep us all in your prayers, as we need to keep all of them safe in the sea. We are all really looking forward to it.

The childrens names are: Queenie, Adventi, Bahati, Onesmo, Gertrude, Devota, Sabina,Da Flossa,  Shangue, Emanuel, Patrick, Isaya, Emy, Nama and Bianca

There will be a prayer meeting to pray for them on Wednesday 29th July at 7:45pm in Holy Family Hall. All are welcome from both parishes.

The orphanage is overwhelmed by the generosity of our parishoners and wish to pass on their thanks to you all both for the donations of shoes, clothes etc. and for the money.

The golden giving page remains open at: http://www.goldengiving.com/f/helping-hands-for-tanzania

Lost Property

3 coats have been left behind in St Mary’s Room for a number of months. They will be available for collection after the weekend Masses. If they have not been claimed by the end of the month, they will be donated to charity.

Rosaries for Charity

The Catenians would like to express their thanks to all who donated their old rosaries to the appeal. In amongst the rosaries received was a cross on a gold chain which contained 2 gold wedding rings. If these were donated in error, please speak to Fr Robin or the parish office to reclaim, otherwise they will be sold for scrap and the money sent to the Catenian rosary appeal.

Baptisms

Baptism forms are available at the back of both Churches. Parents will need to attend an evening Baptism course. Please return your completed Baptism Form to Deacon John Edwards so that you can be included in the next Course.

The next Baptism evening will take place in September.

Please note that we expect to be running a course for children of seven and older as part of the catechetical programs in the Autumn.

Holy Angels

Prayer Group: takes place once a month on a Tuesday in St. Mary’s Room at Holy Angels Church at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. The next prayer group will take place on Tuesday 8th September.

Coffee Group: There is a regular coffee group which meets after Mass on a Wednesday morning. All are welcome.

Mass for A&B Lourdes pilgrims

If you normally travel to Lourdes, but are not for whatever reason able to be there this year, a Mass is being held for pilgrims just like you to get together and experience some of the atmosphere and friendship of the Pilgrimage. This will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Whiteways Lane, Rottingdean, BN2 7HB at 10am on Saturday 1 August. There promises to be lots of recognisable Lourdes music to enjoy. After Mass, if you would like to stay with the group, they will create their own ‘Little Flower’ and decamp down to The Plough at the end of the lane for coffee, maybe a lunchtime drink or lunch. If you are intending to attend, please call/text Andrew Harvey (after 7pm weekdays or anytime weekends) on 07736 930849, or email andrewjharvey1@gmail.com so an idea of numbers can be gained.
