Holy Angels

Liturgy of the Word for children: Please remember that on the first and third Sundays of the month when we offer liturgy of the word for children (from 4yrs up to First Holy Communion) we are requesting that during mass we leave the St Mary’s Meting Room solely for this use. This is to comply with our safeguarding procedures, and makes it easier to offer a better liturgy for the children. If you need to take a younger child out of church for part of the service please use the foyer.

Women’s World Day of Prayer

Will take place on Friday, 6th March (more information to follow shortly)

Message from Deacon Robin

As we were able to announce last week we now have a date to look forward to for my ordination to the priesthood. I am very much enjoying my time as a transitional deacon, and in that I have been greatly helped by the deacons in my placement at Hayward’s Heath and especially by our own deacon John who is quite sure he will have me trained up perfectly as a deacon just in time for me to begin my priestly ministry among you! Having a permanent deacon in the parishes is a practical gift, but is also a sign of the fullness of the ministry which Jesus shares with his church.

I have already in my pastoral ministry among you come across situations where people are in need of the sacramental ministry of a priest. So it is good that Archbishop Peter has decided to hold my ordination locally, at St Joseph’s, Guildford, so that it can be an occasion that we can celebrate from our parishes as well.

You will probably know that it is traditional for a new priest to offer three masses with special intentions after his ordination; a votive mass of the Holy Spirit, of Our Lady, and one for the departed. These masses indicate something of the spiritual life that the priest is to have, subservient to the leading of the Holy Spirit, a loving relationship with Mary, the mother of priests, and the offering of the mass for the whole people of God, living and departed. So as well as gathering together for the ordination service we will have the opportunity to celebrate the beginning of my ministry with you and the resumption of weekday masses in each of our parishes. So I will celebrate my First Mass at the Holy Angels on Friday 20th March at 7.30pm, and my First Mass at Holy Family on Saturday 12.30pm, and the intention would be that after both these masses we have some bring and share food so we can celebrate this new chapter in our lives together.

As part of my preparation for my ordination I will be away on retreat from Friday 13th February until Ash Wednesday, so please do keep me in your prayers at this time, as I do all of you,

Deacon Robin
