Diocesan Jubilee Celebration

You should already have the date in your Diary for our Diocesan Golden Jubilee celebration which will take place on Sunday 5th July at the Amex Stadium in Brighton.

Please put the date in your Diary now if you have not already done so. We are looking into the possibility of booking a coach for the Parishes so that we can attend the Mass on that day together. So watch this space!
Further details are available on both Church Notice Boards.

Baptisms

If you are wanting a child baptised in the next three or four months please obtain a form from the back of the church and hand it, as soon as possible (even if you cannot complete it all), to either Deacon Robin or Deacon John. You will need to attend an evening’s course and the next course will take place early in February, you will be given the date once we have your basic details. Becoming a Catholic

A couple of people have also shared with me that they might want to explore whether they wanted to become Catholic. As a convert myself this is something that is very close to my heart. If there is anyone who is wanting to explore the possibility of becoming a catholic it would again be very helpful if you could speak to myself, Deacon John or the parish office, so we can see if it’s the right time to put on a course.

Lent

Lent is only a month away so we are already beginning to think about Lent groups. We have usually run one at Holy Family, but in recent years we haven’t had one at Holy Angels. If you would be interested in attending a group at Holy Angels please could you let us know.

From Deacon Robin

The current practice in our Diocese is that transitional deacons, (that is those who are ordained to the diaconate while in preparation for their ordination to the priesthood) are rarely seen out in the wild, instead mainly exercising their diaconate in the seminary during their final year of study. So it isn’t really surprising that last Sunday I was asked if I was continuing my studies at Wonersh during the week while I prepare for my own ordination to the priesthood.

I very much enjoyed my time at St John’s Seminary in Wonersh; I experienced it as being both a happy and prayerful place of formation, so it would be no hardship to be doing further work there. However although for the Vigil and Sunday masses, with Fr Terry celebrating for us, I’m very much in the back row, I do have pastoral care of the parishes and am here full time. Keeping with previous practice I’m taking Monday as my day off for the moment while I see how that works.

It is worth leaving a message on the answer phone if you ring outside office hours and Rita or myself will always get back to you.

As is normal practice I’m not rushing in with a big list of things to change. Deacon John, among others, is being helpful in filling me in on past practice, so I can understand where we are in our two parishes. The reality is however that even if I try to change nothing there will inevitably be differences of style between myself and Fr David, and I am already being asked to make decisions by people involved in the various ministries in the parish, particularly in areas the practice has in fact varied in recent years between the two parishes. Please do come and talk to me if there are things I either have or haven’t done which raise any questions for you. I will always try to make myself as available as possible.

If you are a parishioner at Holy Family I am particularly aware that it can be a little harder to speak to me on a Sunday, and you may find it inconvenient to get to the parish office. I am happy to arrange to get to Holy Family earlier on a Sunday; to make time before or after the weekday services; or to meet around those times by appointment. Just ring through to the parish office or make contact by email.

With every Blessing,

Deacon Robin.

Prayer for a new Bishop

Heavenly Father look with mercy on your people,
and grant us a new shepherd.
Help those who choose our Bishop to listen
to the voice and guidance of your Holy Spirit
and to act for the good of your holy Church.
Father, we ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.

Amen
